Free Book Fridays is live!

Every summer, something happens to kids that doesn’t make the headlines but shows up in every classroom in September. It’s called Summer Brain Drain — and the research is clear. Without access to books and enriching experiences over the summer, children can lose up to three months of reading progress. By the time the first bell rings in the fall, teachers are spending precious weeks re-teaching material from the previous spring instead of moving forward.
For kids with resources — books at home, library access, summer programs — the slide is manageable. For kids without those resources, it compounds year after year.
This summer, we’re doing something about it.
Starting Friday, May 29, 2026, and every Friday through September 11, we are giving away one free Cartoonversation e-book every week — 16 consecutive weeks, 16 free books.
Cartoonversation books are award-winning, trauma-informed, and built around the topics kids and the adults in their lives need most: safety, kindness, resilience, and more. They come with the Cartoonversation Card, a built-in discussion guide that makes it easy for anyone to sit down with a child and start a real conversation.
Subscribe, then share this with every parent, educator, first responder, counselor, and community member you know. The more kids we reach this summer, the stronger every classroom will be in September.
